Abstract
The article studies the occurrence and the meaning of Pena Camasia , related with the expression of diablo de la pena (Camasia) , and its lexical variations in some literary texts of Spanish Golden Age. After examination of the phenomenon of its diffraction linguistic, the article explores the historical and cultural origins of the expression in popular speech.

Al contrario, nos ha proporcionado Alfonso de Baena que, en la larga lista de libros jurídicos, patrísticos y filosóficos de los que hace alarde en su largo Dezir, incluye el saber “espantante” de la peña camasina, que se vuelve a confirmar como un prestigiado y oscuro centro de aprendizaje: Yo leí la Pelegrina, Partidas e Ordenamientos, e fueros e regimientos e la Suma ambrosina, e más la Ley bartolina e los libros retratantes de çiençias espantantes de la pena camasina [...]2
Encuentro dos ocurrencias más del sintagma: en un conjuro estudiado en Díez Borque (1995: 21: “gran diablo de la peña / que haces hay [sic]”); en una requisitoria poética del Comendador Román a Antón de Montoro, donde se le tacha de pésimo versificador y se le acusa de plagiario: “pues que fustes mentiroso / con envidia brava y fuerte / de mis obras: / y pues vos quisistes lid, / yo, según de mí vocablo / vos enseña, / no Juan de Valladolid, / mas para vos el diablo/ de la peña”, Respuesta de Román en Montoro (1991: 190194 [191]); estudian el texto de Lope (1990) y Costa (1999), sin referirse al origen del sintagma
