Abstract

Laparoscopy in the horse. Equine laparoscopy was described for the first time in the seventies. Thanks to the work of Wilson in the eighties, it has developped and is currently widely used by veterinary surgeons. Several types of procedures have been reported : (1) explorative laparoscopy is used for diagnosis and biopsy ; (2) organs such as ovary, intraabdominal testicle and kidney can be removed ; (3) gastro-intestinal diseases can be prevented like strangulated inguinal hernia by hernioraphy of the internal inguinal ring ; (4) repair of organs can be performed such as ruptured bladder in the foal ; and (5) pain of the ovary ligaments can be treated.
