Abstract

In Modern Spain bishops werc a powerful elite and had an important signi- ficance historically. With the sources of the Vatican Archives, especially those produced after Ihe Couricil of Trent, completed aud enriched with olber docu- ments from different archives, a sociological study has been drawn up in which appointment mechanichs and choosing criteria, episcopal career, social class or the different levels of instruction of Spanish bishops and the end of the episcopal life are included. The purpose of this information is to take closer look at the sociography of this ecclesiastic colective that played a major role in Spanish society is the aim of this information.
