Abstract

Hypertext is a good alternative when an author wants voices and actions from readers. In La isla del fin de la suerte (The Island of Destiny’s End), Lorenzo Silva, the author outgrows, conventional sequential structure of novels and rejects a singular ending. He breaks any systematic construction of characters and situations. Silva writes a novel with the utmost freedom, so that the reader would have maximum freedom to read and choose complementing closed linear reading. He indicates that unlike normal mystery stories a detective can be on the list of suspects without noticing while making a deduction with sharp reasoning to catch a culprit. During participation and communication, lines between a reader and a writer blur and a docuverse1) that embraces a diversified world is created. Silva intends to open a road to communicate between readers and author accepting the opinion of critics who predict the end of the book or the death of the author and criticizes human alienation in cyber space. As an alternative, he offers a space for collective intelligence through the reader’s positive intervention and communication in cyber space.
