Abstract

The Arbo site (Pontevedra, Galicia) is one of the few Acheulean places with extensive excavations at Galicia, with late Middle Pleistocene age. This site has a large assemblage from stratigraphic position, although now we analyse the lithic materials assemblage recovered on surface. These materials were recovered in a reduced area and it can be placed regarding to the site stratigraphic sequence. The lithic materials were classified for the chaine operatoire reconstruction with the techno-typological and technoeconomical pattern recognition. The study shows unknown information for the technological features about Acheulean behaviour from Galicia region, where there is scarce published data. These materials have the large flake Acheulean features –lfa–, with an important macro-tools assemblage –lcts–, mainly handaxes and cleavers featured for a high configuration degree and extensive soft-hammer use. The studied assemblage shows the same technotypological and technoeconomical features than other late Middle Pleistocene sites from the main Atlantic Iberian basins.
