Abstract

The Historia troyana, a text created in the second half of the 14th century, was originally written in Castilian and commissioned by Pedro I of Castile in the last years of his reign (ca. 1365-69). It is an ambitious literary project conceived as a textual and visual alternative to the myth of Troy as it was presented in its predecessor, the Cronica troyana comissioned by Pedro’s father, king Alfonso XI. In this paper, we will carry out a detailed study of the composition, disposition and articulation of the interpolations included in the text, which derive from texts created in Alfonso X the Wise’s court. This will allow us to prove that the textual models of the Historia troyana were the Libro de Troya and some draft gatherings of the General estoria, as well as to describe some of their main features.
