Abstract

Geography of Perception in West Germany. — Following on from Anglo-American work, Geography of perception in Germany has been concerned with mobility and with the different "images" of the town. From there, its field of application has widened to include the theme of leisure. Disregarding anything to do with work, the research concentrates primarily on habitat, in the wide meaning of the term, and, in particular, on the way in which children perceive and judge it. The "Perception of Hazards" has been used by this article's author in his study of the earthquake in Frioul. A rapid revue of German work concerning the Geography of perception seems finally to show that, in the framework of the vast problem of the adaptation of the environment to needs, the emphasis has been less on a theoretical in-depth analysis of the question, than on the pursuit of objectives in direct relation to planning.
