Abstract

Geography in secondary education, English experience. — This article describes the institutional and educational context within which geographical education occurs in English and Welsh secondary schools. It gives a brief history of geography teaching and then goes on to indicate the present state of geographical education in schools and the influences that shape it, like examinations, curriculum development projects. It ends by making a brief evaluation of the state of geographical education, emphasizing the changed economic, political and social climate.
