Abstract

This article treats on the gale that one received the life closely of 140 fishermen in the Biscayan littoral in August, 1912. To the tragedy there added a movement of public solidarity canalized by the political institutions. This catastrophe happened in a moment of decisive changes both in the arts and in the crafts of fishing, to what the transformations were added in the traditional systems of working association in the fishing area. The consequences of this catastrophe affected of different way both in the evolution of the fishing activities and in the social organization.
