Abstract

The figure of Cain in the Koran In the Koran, the story of Genesis corresponds to the story about the burst out of evil in the Creation. Adam's wicked son represents in particular the evil which generates from within the human soul. It is neither the evil that comes from the use of reason, as in the case of the fallen angel, nor the evil born from disobeying God's Word as was the case of the first man. Cain is here analyzed in the Koranic text following the suggestions of some famous exegetical works and with ideas passed down by Tradition, beyond the Biblical substrate. Analizing the figure of Cain lends very well to any principal questions about the problem of evil in the Islamic culture.
