Abstract

A highly active La-Zr-Beta catalyst for the reduction of cyclohexanone via the Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) process was developed. La-doping would not change the concentration of surface acid sites of Zr-Beta, but it can enhance the L/B ratio of the same solid. 1.0 wt% La-Zr-Beta zeolite with proper micropores presented the best catalytic activity with cyclohexanone conversion of 95% and cyclohexanol selectivity of 99%. La-doping can decrease the strength of strong basicity in the zeolite. The superior catalytic performance comes from the mediating effect of La, which efficiently improves the synergy effect between acidic and basic sites formed in the Zr-Beta zeolite.
