Abstract

W. A. Lohr : The doctrine of God in the Letter to Flora of Ptolemy. The letter to Flora of Ptolemy is a small masterpiece of second century Christian literature. The article offers an analysis of the doctrine of God in this letter with special attention to the platonicising background of Ptolemy's thinking. In the context of the 2nd century, the doctrine developed by Ptolemy may be interpreted as a nuanced reaction to the challenge of the most radical theology of the century, that of Marcion.
