Abstract
One of the features that characterizes the complexity of the Middle East is its diffuse structure of power, which is constituted by a complex interweaving of the three fundamental geopolitical dimensions (local, regional and global), constituted by socio-political units, actors and processes that claim different executive fields (political, economic, military, technological, religious-moral, family and social), with different justifications and legitimations (traditional, charismatic, legal-rational). In order to provide a basic image of this diffusion, the article has been divided into four headings: the first is a brief introduction; the second tries to order a typology of the different socio-political units at all three levels; and the third explains the basic features that have generated the peculiar diffusion of power. Finally, with the help of Norbert Elias’s figurative sociology, some types of games among political actors are established which can help us understand the various conflictive configurations of the region.
