Abstract

In 1988 and 1989, the French economic growth was the ever recorded since the first oil shock, even if it was lower than it used to be in the 1950's and 1960's. The French growth, in line with of the more industrialised countries, benefited from a particularly favourable economic context : a low inflation rate, some competitiveness gains, a positive contribution to the external accounts, small current and budget deficits. Moreover, there was significant job creation, any break in the productivity growth rate. However, the rate hardly decreased and is still very high (2 500 000 people).
