Abstract

The pottery assemblage which is presented here is composed of 65 sherds found in the course of former excavations conducted by E. Genson in Grotte du Pont at Poussarou in the Montagne Noire geographical area. The main objective of this study has been to situate this ceramic assemblage in the Mediterranean Early Neolithic context. Nevertheless, the dual approach that has been chosen, which combines the determination of the origin of raw materials together with the typological study of the ceramic material, allows us, besides clarifying the problem of the cultural attribution of the present assemblage, to sustain the discussion concerning the Neolithicisation of the Mediterranean hinterland.
