Abstract

ABSTRACT1) African religious movements as manifestations of social contestation of colonial rule in Zaire; 2) tribalism as a new principle of social identification in colonial Zaire and especially in relations between ethnicity and urban life; 3) the African workers’ contestation movement and the formation of the African proletariat in colonial Zaire.The author tries to find some common ways of expression in African contestation of colonial ride during the colonial period. Special attention is paid to African traditional religious movements as an expression of social contestation.
