Abstract

In this article; we discuss the process that a group of teachers from the Master's in Applied Linguistics has undergone in order to construct a suitable didactic model for teaching language teachers via distance-learning. Some theoretical considerations provide answers to the following questions: What is a didactic model?; What are its components?; and How does one construct a didactic model to deliver distance education ? Next; we comment on some of the practical considerations mentioned by four experts in distance education either because they have coordinated one of these programs or because of their experience in the use of technological resources in distance education. These experts participated in a Seminar/Workshop organized by the authors with the purpose of having the participants learn about the results of some distance education programs and consider possible alternatives for the Centro de Ensenanza de Lenguas Extranjeras. Finally; the authors state the necessity to continue the process of construction in order to reach theoretical and practical considerations in the didactic model which might be sufficiently flexible to satisfy the necessities and expectations both of the target population and the tutors and advisors who will facilitate the process of learning at a distance.
