Abstract
The excessive alcohol consumption is important in football and very harmful, above all, amongst young people. Because sport is largely associated with alcohol consumption in the scientific literature, the aim of this work is to study this phenomenon among young footballers. 1 064 questionnaires were collected by an independent organism in different French high schools. Six ANOVAs were performed with one factor, in order to analyze the data and to differentiate male and female athletes and non-athletes. The results showed that boys drink alcohol more frequently than girls and national male footballers drink less alcohol than others. The results showed athletes consume more alcohol than non-athletes. This study is exploratory even if the sample seems large, female players are too few to generate reliable results. It could be interesting to confirm these results in a more qualitative study with in-depth interviews.
