Abstract

[Collection of Proverbs in the Manuscript Escorialensis X-I-13] The article offers a study and collation of the compilation of ancient Greek proverbs preserved on ff. 247-249v of the manuscript Escorialensis X.I.13. This is one of the versions preserved of the compilation by Gregory of Cyprus (c. 1240-1290). In addition to its possible textual contributions, it is of special interest for two reasons: it is the oldest manuscript preserving Gregory’s paroemiographical compilation and it is most likely an autograph of Gregory himself, as Inmaculada Pérez Martín has argued with good arguments. The text of the Escorialensis is compared with other versions of the same collection, especially with the one presented by the also unpublished collection of the Parisinus 2720 and with the three recensions edited in the Corpus Paroemiographorum Graecorum.
