Abstract

China : new liberation China made great progress when it was first liberated in 1949 under the leadership of Mao Zedung. But the inherited autocratic political system backed up by ideological dogmatism and the idolization of an important man only led to failure and sterility. Since 1978, thought has become more liberal, calling upon the practical as the only criterion for the truth. In the place of passive obedience and apathy it was necessary to instil a democratic spirit. On the economic front, a fundamental task of socialism is the development of productive forces. It cannot be brought about using central planning but through a free market system regulated by the state. The transition from the old system to the new bodes well but is not without difficulties.
