Abstract

This article analises the interaction between a republican political order in-the-making, and the nuclear indigenous populations in the American territories which separated themselves from the Spanish Crown in the first decades of the 19th Century. It is defended that such interaction was more complex and nuanced than is normally recognized. This article also aims at presenting the reader with a wide historiographical debate that in the last years is throughly revising the subject.
