Abstract

The purpose of this work is to analyze the concept of “being person” taking as a parameter the ideas of Edith Stein and José Ortega y Gasset on this matter. We will take the thought of a young Stein exposed in The Structure of the Human Person and for Ortega's we turn primarily to his article “Prologue for Germans” because there he makes a synthesis of his doctrine. Deepening this topic and its relationship with morality takes on special relevance, at a time when some recent currents of opinion intend to expand it to include certain classes of animals. Also, to evaluate how correct is the statement that free actions are the ones that form the person's being.
