Abstract

The administrative and medical organisation of the Surgical Intermediate Care Units (SICU) have been determined statutorily. In paediatric care as for adults, SICU are autonomous entities connected with surgical departments, operating theatre, recovery room, and intensive care units used as resort. Admissions in SICU are determined according to surgical procedures and patients’ co-morbidities requiring a careful postoperative monitoring and support to prevent the occurrence of complications. This articles describes the conditions prevailing to management of paediatric patients in corresponding SICU, the organisation of SICU and the techniques implemented and their limits, and the connections with the other departments.
