Abstract

We have measured L-shell x rays for Sm and Yb induced by carbon ions with energies between 2 and 5 MeV. The measured spectra have been used to extract the individual Li (Lα, Lβ, Lγ and Lℓ) and total L-shell x ray production cross sections. Related ionizations cross sections for Li sub-shells have been determined from individual measured L-shell x ray production cross sections, L-shell fluorescence and Coster-Kronig yields corrected by the multiple ionization effects. The results have been compared with the available experimental data from the literature as well as with the predictions of the PWBA and ECUSAR theories. The analysis of data shows that the ECUSAR predictions agree well with our experimental data.
