Abstract

This paper proposes a new L-shape array based technique for massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems to overcome the cross user correlation (CUC) of tightly coupled users in a near line-of-sight scenario in fifth-generation massive MIMO systems without changing signal processing complexity. The performance of the scheme is validated using standard performance metrics like CUC and achievable sum-rate. The results reveal that CUC reduces from 0.8 to around 0.05, and the scheme achieves CUC and sum-rates very close to an independently identically distributed Gaussian channel even under the tightest coupling of mobile terminals. The technique requires a few additional components per radio frequency (RF) chain at the base station.
