Abstract

Jean-Philippe Neuville The "Organization" : A Dialogue of Order and Disorder («Just-in-Time» in the European Automobile Industry) This study of «Toyotism's» consequences on the automobile industry resorts to concepts of order, disorder and organization. It contrasts rigid models with contingent constructs better adapted to managing uncertainty. In this industry, the order being sought creates vulnerability, since there is little room for maneuvering and various requirements are out of phase. The organization thus emerges as a contingent solution. Actors recreate buffer stocks in the overall process. They cooperate in order to both learn which parts are available and manage contingencies.
