Abstract

Many Far Eastern aquaculture activities : eel (Japan, Taiwan), yellowtail (Japan), milkfish (Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan) are on the dépendance of fry supply from the natural environment. This support small scale fisheries providing a basic economic return to remote traditional fishermen villages. In another field North Pacific Salmon Sea Ranching is the economic basement of many fishermen communities in Alaska and North Japan. On the other hand salmon sea ranching remains very restricted in the North Atlantic but it's looking promising in Southern Ocean (Chili). Salmon sea ranching and aquaculture interference in the natural populations raise problems for conservation (interbreeding, competition, pathologic transmission, etc). Looking to use the sea ranching support at the scale of fishermen villages Japan is pushing to develop in the same way cool (Northern scallop) and warm (sea bream) species. Ultimately industrial fisheries contribute to aquaculture through feeding carnivorous fish by forage-fish, meals or pellets which are product by the industrial fisheries.
