Abstract

The unequal rates of success at the "baccalauréat": a use of the LOGIT model. — The study of the rates of success at the "baccalauréat" is a means to understand some aspects of the French school system and of its spatial differentiation. It is based on the study of some 2 000 high schools («lycées»). Their efficiency is explained by variables relative to both their characters and localisations. The statistical analysis uses the LOGIT model, of which the main principles are set out. The model makes it possible to understand the part played by each variable, all the others being held constant, and takes care of interrelations and interactions between variables. The relations shown by the statistical analysis lead to the formulation of a few hypotheses in terms of causality.
