Abstract

Aim of this paper is to show the historical transmission of important contents of natural philosophy from the ancient Stoics to Campanella --particularly to his work De sensu rerum et magia. By analyzing and comparing this text and Stoic sources I argue that the transmission mainly occurred through the works of Cicero and Galen, which were well known to the Calabrian philosopher. The concepts I take to show Stoic influence are those of spiritus , consensus mundi , divination, theory of the soul and perception, and theory of mixture.
