Abstract

The present article aims at reconstructing the historical framework of grammatical reflection on the Italian third verbal conjugation, more precisely on verbs that present the -sc- interfix in their inflection. The aim of the investigation is to verify the conditions in which certain ideas around the subject matured, as well as to trace the trajectory of the changes that the verb forms of our interest underwent over time. For this purpose I will present results from an empirical piece of research based on the corpus of 29 grammar texts from the 16th century to the 18th century.
