Abstract

If Devotio moderna is understood through the work of Thomas a Kempis, does the De imitatione Christi owe anything to Rhineland mysticism ? To find an answer it is important to consider their similarities and differences, as regards the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. Beyond the simple coincidence of terminology, the meaning of the imitation of Jesus Christ in Jean Tauler may be presented by reference to a work which some publishers believed him to be the author of.
