L'hymne et la communauté, ou tragédie, suite et fin : Penser la tragédie d'Euripide

Abstract

Of the Greek playwrights, Sophocles dominates Lacoue-Labarthe’s writing on tragedy. But the French thinker also worked on Euripides’s Phoenician Women, translating it with Claire Nancy and staging a production with Michel Deutsch in 1982. Recent publications have cast further light on this undertaking: Claire Nancy’s Euripide ou le parti des femmes (2016) and Jean-Luc Nancy’s Journal des Phéniciennes (2015), written in the wings of the theatre production. This paper proposes to bring together these materials to elucidate the importance of tragedy for this group of thinkers.
