Abstract

Primary elements are depicted on the Beckettian stage, producing catastrophic images which represent a desolate inner landscape. The rootedness of this writing in the earth, combined with the disintegration of dramatic forms, gives Beckett's theatre an incomparable tension. Focusing on the primary elements of life, our attention is drawn to the essential relationship between body and earth. This paper will focus mainly on Beckett's plays, although reference will also be made to some of the novels and novellas.
