Abstract
80% of the Finnish territory being devoted to forestry, it is undoubtedly one of the most important specialised areas in industrialised countries. Situated in the boreal forest zone, it is mostly constituted by Scot pine (Pinus sylvestris), Norway spruce (Picea abies) and birch (Betula pubescens and pendula) Even though they form a very big area, those forests are divided into a multitude of small plots because of the important number of private owners (more than 400000). Over 40% of Finnish exportations being linked to the forest the State and the companies had to coordinate everything through the Forest Act and the Scandinavian method of roundwood cutting. That method improved the productivity but also had negative social consequences.
