Abstract

This paper deals with French military aviation between 1914 and 1918, from its difficult beginnings to the successful tactical force of 1918, the “Air Division”. The technical, industrial and human efforts were put in service of a ground forces support doctrine elaborated according to the circumstances in the Western Front, differing from the one chosen by maritime powers like UK and USA.
