Abstract

The reflexive mood. Note on contemporary human geography in Australia. — Although cultural geography itself has not been well supported in Australia, one recent sign of increasing professional maturity is the vaguely expressed need for some kind of cultural geography of the local geographical fraternity. This paper illustrates some aspects of this trend and suggests that there has been a significant movement away from professional isolation and an 'international' orientation breeding cultural dependence towards a search for national roots and improved dialogue with Australian society.
