Abstract
The article gives a textual analysis of Giulio Angioni’s "Millant’anni" (2002) which sees this novel as an epic tale of the Sardinian people, focused on the question of collective identity as the ever-varying product of historical change. The article identifies the novel’s most innovative feature as its “historical minimalism”, that is, Angioni’s interest in representing the minimal and basic levels of social life. This is evident not so much in the fact that the novel’s protagonists belong to the lowest level of society, but rather in the fact that he focuses his attention on elementary levels of life experiences; it is at this level that he portrays the echoes of so-called major events.
