Abstract

The institutional conflicts and disciplinary conservatism responsible for the disastrous consultation on the revised natural sciences program for college-level (pre-university) schools in Quebec have convinced me of the need for a political analysis of this process. Here I have attempted to outline the proceedings and power dynamics that have influenced the interactions, whether in-person or not, between various stakeholders. Secondly, I have analyzed the discourse of the program in order to show the notion of science that it projects and to understand its political underpinnings. As we will see, in either case, twenty years on, this is a return to square one characterized by adherence to a form of scientism.
