Abstract

By treating with trypsine egg-white lysozyme, which had been previously either simply denatured by heat or oxidized by performic acid, it has been possible to isolate with a good yield free leucine and a peptide, the C-terminal amino acid of which was leucine. The structure of this peptide has been established, and several considerations have shown that this peptide corresponds to the C-terminal sequence of lysozyme: Gly.Cys.Arg.Leu.OH.
