Abstract
At the end of the 19th century, Ecuador was integrated into international markets through esports of cocoa. In the mid-twentieth century, bananas became the most important product in Ecuadorian export basket. In this period, Ecuador’s foreign trade operations were subject to dynamics that deserve discussion. From a descriptive perspective, this paper analyzes several elements of Ecuadorian foreign trade: the reliability of local foreign trade statistics registered by Ecuador, its exportable supply, the behavior of imports and, finally, the geographical composition of the foreign trade flows of this small and open economy.
