Abstract

From the time of Tocqueville to our time, association has been a field of investigation, but we don't know much about its educational action. What is the role of these « educational micro environnements » in the self training of some of its voluntary members ? The author's research carried out in social et socio cultural centres by means of semi-directive interviews starts from the hypothesis that cognifive learning is intentional, usually related to affectivity and that collective solidarity between peers always occurs even in individual training. The author analyses the development of this voluntary learning through the examples of several « associative learners » : Bernard, sixteen years old, excluded from the school system without a diploma... Catherine a militant who had quit school when she was eighteen years old with an ordinary sociomedical certificate ; Odile, trained in administrative management, in charge of a rural centre Noema with a North african culturaf background wno quit school with an office worker certificate and improves her knowledge thanks to various tasks in a social centre.
