Abstract

Language acquisition : an innate ability ? This paper presents the arguments that suggest that the capacity to acquire a human language is innate (poverty of the stimulus, specificity to human beings, dissociation with other capacities, creoles). Then it illustrates experimental research on language acquisition in three domains : cerebral representation of language, acquisition of phonetic categories, and syntax acquisition.
