Abstract

This article offers a linguistic description of Jewish English. After a brief discussion of theoretical issues in Jewish linguistic studies, the article describes distinctive features of Jewish English at the levels of lexicon, phonology, syntax, prosody, and discourse. While variation is mentioned, the article focuses on a very distinct variety, Orthodox Jewish English, especially among Ashkenazim in the United States.
