Abstract

Acute anaphylaxis has become more frequent in infants and adolescents. Knowing that several European countries do not have specific directives for the management of anaphylaxis, the European Taskforce on Anaphylaxis (ETA) of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical immunology (EAACI) developed and published such directives in an international journal in 2007 [1]. Since these directives were not available in French, we thought that it would be useful to summarize the directives which concerned children. In addition, between 2005 and 2008, other official organizations – Cochrane Collaboration Cochrane Reviews, the Working Group of the Resuscitation Council (UK), National Guideline Clearing house – had published documents on this subject, and we also refer to these documents. The directives of the ETA include six chapters: (1) Definitions, (2) Epidemiology, (3) Clinical symptoms, (4) Treatment, (5) Management in the community, and (6) Conclusions. This 14-page document is supported by 123 references. The proposals are accompanied by graded recommendations using the classical indicators A to D when this is possible. This synthesis, the first in the French language, should improve the diagnosis of anaphylaxis in adults as well as in children.
