Abstract

Julien Green lives a complex and troubled relationship between an emotional and a sexual life and religious quest, in a difficult context where guilt implemented by educational and ecclesial institutions is strong. However, as a homosexual and believer, he attempts to avoid the question about his own destiny. Green is hungry, hungry for boys’ bodies, but he is also inhabited by religious sentiment. We propose, in this paper, a reflection from some significant texts. They show an oscillation between religious nostalgia, sensual ecstasy and obsessive fascination for the sacred. Caught in this ambivalence, Green is looking for conciliation through the practice of literary activity and probably through spiritual practice.
