Abstract

A promising new field of renewable energy sources is the utilization of common reed’s biomass, and a possible way of this is to pelletize and burn it in suitable furnaces or stoves. The research documented by this and subsequent publications analyze the production process, based on the results of the research. The results from testing the combustion properties (calorific value, ash content, ash melting point) of common reed samples are comparable with the properties of agripellets. By using the conventional grinding technology the common reed – similarly to agricultural stalk materials – moved towards the larger size range as compared to the woody raw material. After the delimitation of uses we intend to analyze the possibilities of air transportation and utility pellet production of common reed in pilot production.
