Abstract

Introduction : Mesenteric cyst is rare. The diagnosis is difficult. In this case, we report a new case of giant cyst of the mesentery. The authors insist on the contribution of the tomodensitometry in the diagnosis and discuss the place of the laparoscopy in surgical treatment. Observation : A 40 year old man was admitted for a giant abdominal mass with compressive signs. The CT scan had evoked the diagnosis of cyst mesenteric. The surgical resection was performed with success. After one year of follow up, the patient is well with no recurrence. Discussion : The diagnosis of mesenteric cyst is difficult. Clinical items and radiological aspects are extremely various.. The aspiration of the cyst is forbidden in hydatid endemic countries. Malignant cysts occur in less than 3% of cases. Total cystectomy is the treatment of choice. When the cyst’s size is small , the laparoscopy is an effective and safe approach. In giant cyst, the laparotomy remains useful. Conclusion : The cyst mesenteric is a rare. Ct scan usually confirms the diagnosis. Surgical removal is the only treatment for these lesions. Bowel resection may be necessary in cases where cysts are close to bowel structures or involve blood vessels that supply the bowel. Once removed, mesenteric cysts rarely recur, and patients have an excellent prognosis.
