Abstract

The ligamentum flavum cyst is an intradural cystic lesion. It represents a rare cause of lumbar canal stenosis. We report two clinical observations of patients aged 53 years old and 66 years old, suffering from lumbar canal stenosis by ligamentum flavum cyst. Lumbar magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of patients showed a posterior epidural cystic formation repressing the dural sheath, with T1 in hypo intensity and T2 in hyper intensity with a wall enhanced by the contrast agent. A laminectomy with excision of the cystic lesion and the affected ligamentum flavum had been performed. The follow-up was favorable with a decline of 6 months and 24 months respectively. The disappearance of a patient’s root symptomatology and deficit recovery had been noted. The lumbar canal stenosis by the ligamentum flavum cyst is a rare anatomoclinical entity. The first choice of treatment is a complete surgical excision with good results. Keywords: lumbar canal stenosis, cyst, ligamentum flavum
