Abstract

This book presents actual perspectives on Church History from different standpoints. It is the result of an academic conference on Ecclesiastical History in Stockholm, February 27-28, 2008. The volume starts with a chronological section in which different research developments in Ancient, Medieval, Reformation and Modern Church History are demonstrated by Samuel Rubenson (Lund), Torstein Jørgensen (Bergen/Stavanger), Tarald Rasmussen (Oslo), and Aila Lauha (Helsinki). Hugh McLeod (Birmingham) presents the international cooperation in CIHEC and the evolution of Church History. The concluding, thematic section of the volume deals with theory and empiry in Ecclesiastical History (Anders Jarlert, Lund), the Church's responsibility for its history (Oloph Bexell, Uppsala), Church History as theology (Samuel Rubenson, Lund), and the relevance of Church History for the future (Sinikka Neuhaus, Lund). The volume offers an introduction to the study of Church History as well as a presentation of different research problems in time and space.
