Abstract

Kyoto School is an intellectual network that was established by Nishida Kitaro and Tanabe Hajime, the founders of philosophy as a scholarly discipline in Japan, as well as by scholars under strong academic and personal influence of Nishida and Tanabe. Within this school, those who first became interested in social philosophy were Miki Kiyoshi and Tosaka Jun, who worked under heavy Marxist influence. Tanabe Hajime also showed a strong interest in issues related to society and the state, and created a unique philosophy called “the logic of species.”
